CAF AWARDS NOMINATIONS - NIGERIA MISS OUT NOMINATION DESPITE QUALIFICATION FOR AFCON
The Confederation of African Football(CAF) Awards is held yearly by the governing body of African football to recognize and honor outstanding players, coaches, local clubs and national teams in the African Continent. Depending on the edition of the CAF awards there are between 8-12 main categories for nominations which includes the prestigious African player of the year , popularly known as “African Ballon D’or”.
The African Ballon D’or, between the years 1970- 1994 was organized by France football (same organizing body for European Ballon D’or) until CAF completely took over in 1995 and decided African awards should be organized by an African Organization. CAF named this Category CAF African player of the year after France football voluntarily decided to retire from the African Ballon D’or and transfer all recognition to CAF.
