MOROCCO MAKES HISTORY- SECOND AFRICAN COUNTRY TO WIN THE FIFA UNDER 20 WORLD CUP
Morocco enters history books as the second African Country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup. Ghana became the first African country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009 and after 16 years Morocco beats Argentina’s U-20 team to win the title.
Morocco defeated the United States of America’s National U-20 football team by 3 goals to 1 in the quarter finals and went ahead to beat France national U-20 football team via a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. Now they shine at the brightest stage of the world securing the enviable world championship title.
20-year old Yassir Zabiri, Morocco’s U-20 national team forward, scored a first half brace, a very important one for the team to secure the title. Mohammed Ouhabi’s squad after an impressive run light up the pitch to beat Argentina’s super team. Despite Argentina being the most successful country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup (7 times) they lost the title to first time finalists Morocco.
Coach Mohamed Ouahbi after the historic victory made a statement in a post match conference : “This title is the result of years of structured work — a clear example of Morocco’s belief in its own youth and local talent.” After years of patiently investing $ millions, validation of the national project comes.
They take home $1M and go into history books as one of the best African sides in global football.
