BACKGROUND HISTORY OF CAF AWARDS.  The Confederation of African Football(CAF) Awards is held yearly by the governing body of African football to recognize and honor outstanding players, coaches, local clubs and national teams in the African Continent. Depending on the edition of the CAF awards there are between 8-12 main categories for nominations which includes the prestigious African player of the year , popularly known as “ African Ballon D’or” .  The African Ballon D’or, between the years 1970- 1994 was organized by France football (same organizing body for European Ballon D’or) until CAF completely took over in 1995 and decided African awards should be organized by an African Organization. CAF named this Category CAF African player of the year after France football voluntarily decided to retire from the African Ballon D’or and transfer all recognition to CAF.   Cheik Toure , young Senegalese Goalkeeper who was playing for Esprit Foot Yeumbeul in Dakar (Senegal) has tragically lost his life after being lured, kidnapped and murdered by an unknown criminal gang. The 18-year old rising footballer was magnetized with a guarantee of trial in a professional football team. In an attempt to elevate his career, he travelled for the trial only to meet his untimely death on the 17th of October, 2025 after getting kidnapped. The fraudsters, masqueraded as football scouts in Ghana, promised him a move abroad if his trial is successful. The lifeless body of Cheik  Toure was found in Kumasi, Capital of the Ashanti region of Ghana after the family of Cheik couldn’t meet the ransom demands of the kidnappers. His body is currently at Ebenezar Tafo Morgue in Kumasi pending repatriation by the Senegalese Embassy. Morocco enters history books as the second African Country to win the   FIFA U-20 World Cup . Ghana became the first African country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2009 and after 16 years Morocco beats Argentina’s U-20 team to win the title. Morocco defeated the United States of America’s National U-20 football team by 3 goals to 1 in the quarter finals and went ahead to beat France national U-20 football team via a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. From the Medeama Soccer club into the Ghana Black Stars, a new ' Prince ' just made his debut.  Prince Owusu, an attacking midfielder, starred in his first match, also his first call-up when the Black Stars took on Central African Republic in a World Cup African Qualification fixture on 10th October. This was the Ghana's National team final squad for the last round of games for qualification into next year's FIFA World Cup to be held in North America. Prince Owusu was one of two players called up by Coach Otto Addo, alongside OGC Nice player Kojo Peprah Oppong . At just 21 years of age, both are exciting new prospects for the future of national football. Lionel Messi was crowned the Man of the Match and MVP for MLS for the second time in a row. He becomes the first player alive to win the MLS MVP award back to back . This happens after Inter Miami faced Nashville Sc in an away game at GEODIS Park, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The game ended (Nashville Sc) 2:5 (Inter Miami) after a world class performance from the team.
